Christopher Columbus may have read this and realized that the Earth had to be round - the Scriptures confirmed it.
The Genesis Gap
The Gap between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2 explains that there was a world before the creation of Adam and his wife. How old the planet Earth is we do not know, but we do know from Scriptures and science that the Earth is older than 6000 years - much older than Adam and his wife. Here is the explanation (explication):
The Hebrew word "Haya" means "it became ..." "And the earth became formless and void" - why? What caused the cataclysm?
Jeremiah 4:23
"I behold the Earth, and, lo it was without form, and void; and the heavens, they had no light."
Isaiah 45:18
"For thus saith the Lord who created the heavens; God Himself who formed the earth and made it; He has established it, he created it not in vain, He formed it to be inhabited."
Genesis 1:28
"And God said unto them: Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth."
So, the earth was once plenished. Adam and his wife were now to replenish it.
Eden is the Key to the Great Mystery
The Scriptures confirm that Lucifer had been in the Garden of Eden long before Adam and his wife were created and given dominium. How long we do not know, but the gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 tells us something happened to cause the earth to be without form and void especially after God declared He did not create the Earth to be formless and void. Nothing but the Fall of Lucifer caused this. So, when God created Adam and his wife (they were both called Adam before the Fall see Genesis 5:2 Adam named her Eve after the Fall) Lucifer now renamed satan--the usurper--must have been seething with rage...... He has lost his place with God - he had been cast out. No wonder satan was just waiting to ensure the Fall of Adam and his wife. Note, too, it was the Sabbath and God was resting, but the man and his wife were walking in the garden. Satan must have figured that he could stretch this bit of disobedience - and he did - he went right for the kill! How do we know it was the Sabbath? Because verse 8 tells us that God was walking in the Garden in the cool of the day - it was evening - the sun was not out. Adam and Eve hid themselves when they heard God calling. The rest is history.

"And the Lord planted a garden towards the east in Eden; and there He put the man whom He had formed."
Ezekiel 28:13-18
"Thou has been in eden the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering the sardius, topaz, the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, the jasper, the sapphire the emerald and the carbuncle and gold; the workmanship of your tabrets and of your pipes was prepared in you in the day that you were created. You are the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set you so, you were upon the holy mountain of God; you have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty, you have corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness: I will cast you to the ground, I will lay you before kings, that they may behold you. You have defiled your sanctuaries by the multitude of your iniquities, by the iniquity of your traffick; therefore I will bring forth a fire from the midst of you, it shall devour you and I will bring you to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all those who behold you." Here the scriptures confirm that Lucifer was in the garden of Eden before Adam and his wife were created.
Isaiah 14:12-17
"How thou art fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning; how art thou cut down to the ground, who did weaken the nations. For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the North; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."
Here the scriptures confirm Lucifer's fall because of pride. And in rebellion, satan makes his plan to spite God. Note that satan cannot accomplish this without man - because man has redemption and free will. Satan does not. Angels do not have redemption.
Psalm 48:2 describes where the sides of the North is:
"Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth is mount Zion on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
Luke 10:18
"And Jesus said to them: "I beheld satan as lightning fall from heaven."
Lucifer's Fall caused th earth to be null and void. Genesis 1:1.
Genesis 3 - Man's Fall caused the Garden of Eden to be nul and void.
A personal Fall (backsliding) will make a person's relationship with God, null and void.
